Anger Issues??? 7 Keys to Being Slow to Anger in Life!

Anger Issues???

King Solomon a very wise man wrote about how there is a time and place for everything in life in Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

1. Breathe. The moment you feel anger rising up, take a deep breath and blow it out as slowly as possible. This helps calm you back down and it will give you a chance to think before you react.

Psalm 46:10- He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”

2. Moment by moment work through your anger as it comes up. What is making you angry? Is there something constructive you can do about it?

Ephesians 4:26
Be you angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down on your wrath:

Proverbs 19:11
He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding: but he that is hasty of spirit exalts folly.

3. Ask. Ask God for HELP! If you listen He will instruct you in what to do or what NOT to do… God is our Safe place and our hiding place we can trust Him and confide in Him at all times.

Psalm 32:7 You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.

4. Work it out. Maybe you need to go and talk to someone and confront a situation. Maybe you feel there is nothing you can do but you have a lot of anger energy. Do something physical that’s constructive like going for a nice long walk, cleaning and organizing your house, or engaging in a hobby you love.

Jesus at the Temple- Matthew 21:12- Jesus had a righteous anger here and confronted the thieves at the temple… but he didn’t harm anyone. He also instructed those who were doing wrong why he was throwing their tables over. This wouldn’t be good in many situations but in the context of what Jesus was saying it was ok.

Matthew 21:12-13
12 Jesus entered the temple courts and drove out all who were buying and selling there. He overturned the tables of the money changers and the benches of those selling doves. 13 “It is written,” he said to them, “‘My house will be called a house of prayer,’[e] but you are making it ‘a den of robbers.’[f]”

5. Vent. God is our hiding place take most of your venting to Him and He will bring you relief. Tell Him exactly how you feel about the situation and ask Him what you should do.

6. Wait. You know the moment your about to really lose it… wait. If you pause and breathe and wait you might not react in an unhealthy way.

7. Process it daily. You will get angry even Jesus did! But process this daily because if you hold on to it for too long you will become bitter. Your angry bitter thoughts will steal your time, your health, your joy and no one will want to hang out with you! It’s not fun or attractive to be around someone who’s bitter or angry often.

a. Eat.
b. Sleep
c. Exercise
d. Do something fun each day
e. Hang out with friends
f. Shift your focus

Anxiety: God’s Antidote for this Poison that Steals our Lives!

If you aren’t battling anxiety right now I’m sure you know at least 1 other lady who is! Anxiety can really steal our peace, joy, hope and our very life it we allow it to. It’s a battle we must fight with a few key things. There are practical things and spiritual things I have found to be very helpful.

1. According to the Anxiety Depression Association of America anxiety is the most common mental illness in the U.S. If you read further through the different types of anxiety you will see in many cases women are twice as likely to develop them.

2. God gave us ways to combat anxiety by taking our requests to Him and thanking Him, worship and thanksgiving are hard to do while worrying at the same time.

Philippians 4:6-8New International Version (NIV)
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

3. Some basic areas to look at if you are suffering from anxiety may be:

a. Relationships- all relationships are stressful at times but bad ones will cause a lot of anxiety
b. Food- do you have anxiety related to food eating too much or too little, eating in front of others etc.
c. TV and Movies- Here you go off to watch that scary show and then wonder why you are more and more anxious… LOl
d. We lose our peace when we are not obeying God it opens the door for anxiety. Ask God to help you in the area’s you are struggling in and he will.
e. Maybe you stress have anxiety or worry about almost everything… that would be more like me… so don’t feel bad. I find only time in God’s word, prayer, thanksgiving and worship set us totally free from this. But the practical things can also cause or add to it… so I don’t ignore them either.
